Events
Science Fair

The eighth graders participate in the Science Fair, held during the spring. The students choose a topic and write a research paper about the chosen subject as well as creating a project. The projects are reviewed by the judges. The 8th graders are given the opportunity to present their projects to small groups of students and teachers as they tour the fair.

The winning topics during the 1997-98 Science Fair were: Hydroponics, Mice and Insulation, Effects of Temperature on Rockets, Vitamins, and Ants.

Invention Convention

The seventh graders participate in the Invention Convention, held during the spring. The students create a new product (an invention) or take an existing product and improve on its design (an innovation). They do research and write a short paper describing the invention from inception to production. They also create a model. During the Invention Convention, they present their inventions to the judges, teachers, and students.

Spelling Bee

Hill School students participate in the Scripps-Howard Spelling Bee sponsored by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. A school spelling bee is held to determine the students who will represent our school at the city-wide bee. Students in grades 2-8 can participate, and there is one elementary winner and one middle school winner selected.

MATHCOUNTS

Math Counts Regional Competition is held at TCU during February. The top eight seventh and eighth grade math students participate in this one day competition.

MATHCOUNTS Mission

MATHCOUNTS is committed to helping develop a technically literate population essential to U.S. global competitiveness and the quality of life of all Americans. In keeping with national education goals of demonstrated competence in challenging subject matter and world preeminence in science and mathematics achievement, MATHCOUNTS will:
  • Encourage interest and proficiency in mathematics among all intermediate school students;
  • Develop students' awareness of the relevance of mathematics to everyday life and encourage students to pursue mathematics-related careers;
  • Recognize student achievement in mathematics;
  • Foster private and public partnerships that will assist MATHCOUNTS in meeting the changing educational needs of students in a culturally diverse society.
Grandparents' Day

Hill School celebrates Grandparents' Day during the spring. Grandparents are invited to visit in classrooms and eat lunch with their grandchildren. The highlight of the event is the Creative Arts Festival. All students have artwork displayed in the hallways of the school.
