FAQs
To better assist our parents, whether new or returning, we have put together some frequently asked questions. The hope is that these will help and
guide you.
Question: I'm new at Hill School and I feel lost, I'm a little overwhelmed, what do I do?
Answer: Please reassure yourself that every one has been new to Hill School at some point, so please don't hesitate to ask questions. It is best to
start with your child's homeroom teacher; they will be able to answer most of your questions. The division heads also are able to help with
academic issues.
Question: I'm new at Hill School and don't really know what's offered, how can I find out?
Answer: There are many different ways. One of the best ways is during the parent teacher conference prior to the start of school. As you enter the
building you will see a long table with a plethora of information. As you progress to the end you will receive information on just about every
group, or organization at Hill School, and what opportunities they offer.
Question: I really would like to help, but I don't know what to do or who to contact. Where should I start?
Answer: Throughout the year there are several opportunities to help. The PTO Coffee at the first of the year will guide you through what most of the
school wide opportunities are. Some of the major school events where help is greatly appreciated include: The Fall Festival, PTO Auction, and Walk
with the Hawks. There are also events targeted at each division, such as parties, dances, theater, and cultural events. Your child's homeroom
teacher will be able to provide guidance with volunteer opportunities for their individual homeroom, as well as within your division. The school
Librarian may also have opportunities. For additional school wide opportunities please contact Theresa Kauffman, Assistant Head of School or a PTO
representative.
Question: How do I keep track of ALL the events, I'm not sure what there is or when everything is scheduled?
Answer: Each week a newsletter, the Hotline, is sent home with your child on Thursday, and is also available on Parent's RenWeb. It will have all of
the events for the following week posted for each division. Hill school also sends out a monthly calendar, which includes the lunch menu on one side
and the school calendar on the other. There is also an insert included in the student directory that provides the school year calendar of events.
Athletics are included in the Hotline and the monthly calendar.
Question: How do I find out about the academic progress of my child?
Answer: Hill School has mandatory parent teacher conferences three times a year, prior to the start of school, mid-way, and towards the end of the year.
At that time you, your child's teacher, and in High School the student, will sit down and go over the teaching plan that was developed for your child,
where their strong points seem to be, and where they may need help going forward. You are encouraged to ask questions and help provide insight and
guidance to what may be the best action plan for your child.
Question: Does Hill School have athletics? Is my child eligible to play sports, and what's available?
Answer: Hill School has a very good athletic department. School sports are available for students in the Middle and High School division. For Middle
school there is girls volleyball, basketball, softball, and track, boy's football, basketball, baseball, and track. The High school includes all of
the previous with the addition of a golf team. The Athletic Directors and Coashes are glad to answer any questions you may have.
Question: Does Hill School provide any educational tools for parents?
Answer: Hill School does support and provides resources to the students, parents, and our community. Three times a year Hill School will provide a
Parent Education evening. We have had many exceptional speakers who have spoken on such topics as Asperger Syndrome, Learning Differences and ADD,
ADHD, Parenting a child with Learning differences, and many other topics. There is also a library of resource information that may be checked out
to assist in the questions we've all had. Please contact Mrs. Kaufman she will be glad to assist.
Question: Hill School is so far away, is there any way I could find someone to carpool with?
Answer: At the very first parent teacher conference there will be provided a list of all students attending Hill School, arranged by their home zip
code. This is provided so that car pools may be set up, and works very well. For students in Arlington and Grapevine / Colleyville there is a school
bus service provided to and from school each day. There is a designated pick - up and drop off for each. Please review the carpool package provided,
or you may inquire at the front desk.
Question: Where do I purchase my child's yearbook?
Answer: Each child receives a yearbook; the cost is included in their tuition.
Question: How do I belong to PTO or Booster, and if I join one does that include the other?
Answer: PTO and Booster are two separate organizations, as they are in many schools. PTO encompasses the entire student body. Booster Club is geared
more toward athletics and the athletes. Each serves a very important need to the entire student body.
