William Petefish Recognized for Volunteer Service
Hill School of Fort Worth student honored for volunteer service
Fort Worth, Texas (March 10, 2007)
Arlington resident William Petefish, 16, has been honored for his exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. Petefish is a junior at Hill School of Fort Worth.
The award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. The award was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. Petefish participated in the program this year as a Hill School representative.
Petefish earned his award by contributing more than 400 hours of volunteer service work for the Natural Resources Conservation Service. As a volunteer, he worked with the geologic investigations for Nolen Creek that involved electric logging, auger and core drilling, collecting samples, surveying, permeability testing, routine maintenance of equipment, cameras and computers.
Bryan Moffat, the supervising Operations Geologist for the project, praised Petefish for his ability to work with a wide range of people, including TV reporters, NRCS employees, Soil and Water Conservation District personnel, contractors, and landowners. His crew dealt with weather extremes ranging from following a tornado over Ft. Hood for 50 miles, flooding, and temperatures of 100 degrees.
