Extracurricular Activities
A large percentage of Hill School students are involved in extracurricular activities. Students are encouraged to explore affinities through participation in a wide variety of athletics, drama, music, arts and club opportunities. It is not unusual for a student at Hill to play multiple sports, have a leadership role in a club, and perform with one of the fine arts groups.
At Hill School the inclusion of an extracurricular program in our overall educational program encourages students to develop the skills necessary to work cooperatively and provides enhancement of natural talent and ability in an attempt to ensure future participation.
Student Council
Grades 3-6, 7-8, and 9-12Hill School has a Student Council for each division that meets once a week during lunch to plan fund-raisers, service projects, and special activities for the students. Middle School Council members also help during awards ceremonies, dances, and with a library fund-raising initiative in February. High School Student Council takes on more responsibility including planning high school fund-raisers, activities, game nights, social occasions, and trips. Representatives are elected by each homeroom for all divisions.
Band
The band program is directed by the Music Learning Band organization. Special activities include Saturday classes (twice a month), Dallas Stars games, Christmas parade, and December and May All-Band Concerts. High School students receive extra theory instruction during affinity class time. December and Spring Break band trips and summer band camp are also offered for further training and performance. The information website is: www.musiclearning.org.
Athletics
Hill School offers a wide variety of sports for students in grades 5-12. Sports provide an opportunity for students to learn teamwork, responsibility, sportsmanship, and respect for peers and coaches. Some sports will be selective, while others will be available to all interested students.
Most high school sports teams practice Monday through Friday from 3:00pm until 6:00pm during each season. A few teams will practice during physical education classes. For Varsity teams that practice later, study hall will be provided.
Specific athletic opportunities are detailed on the Athletics pages, and include football, volleyball, basketball, track, golf, tennis, and cheerleading. Hill School participates with the TCAF (Texas Christian Athletic Association) for competitive sports.
Drama
The Hill School Drama Club on the Fort Worth Campus provides students in the 6th-12th grades the opportunity to work onstage or backstage in two full-length theatrical productions each school year. Rehearsals take place after school for six to seven weeks each semester. A rehearsal calendar is provided during open auditions for each production. Public performances are scheduled on Friday nights at 7:00 PM.
The Drama Club is an extension of Hill School and fully supports the school's philosophy of respect and responsibility. In addition, Drama helps students develop self-esteem, self-discipline, and promotes social skills.
Hill School rewards active participation in drama by inducting students into the school's Junior Thespian and Thespian Troupe 88366. Following each semester's production, students receive points for work performed on or back stage according to the rules and bylaws of the International Thespian Society.
