Accommodations are strategies used to bypass a weak academic skill. These strategies are designed to ensure success for the learner. For example, a student with dysgraphia might use a computer to complete written assignments.
adhd, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is defined by The National Institutes of Health as having symptoms that include: impulsiveness, a child who acts quickly without thinking first. Hyperactivity, a child who can't sit still, walks, runs, or climbs around when others are seated, talks when others are talking. Inattention, a child who daydreams or seems to be in another world, is sidetracked by what is going on around him or her.

Attention refers to the process of initiating and maintaining energy level needed for optimal learning and behavior; regulating the use of incoming information; regulating academic and behavioral output.

Detention means a teacher or administrator may detain a student after school hours for disciplinary action. The period of time for which a student is assigned to detention shall be used for educational purposes and can be up to 45 minutes. Detention shall not begin until notice has been given to the parents. The parents are required to provide transportation when the student has been assigned detention.

dyslexia is defined by The National Institutes of Health as a brain-based type of learning disability that specifically impairs a person's ability to read. Although it varies from person to person, common characteristics among people with dyslexia are difficulty with spelling, phonological processing (the manipulation of sounds), and/or rapid visual-verbal responding.

Higher order cognition is the ability to integrate a series of features that often go together to form a class of ideas or objects.
Honor code is an ethical principle stating that the student completes all academic work himself or herself.
Honor roll is earned each semester and acknowledged at the awards ceremony. Students named to the "A" honor roll must have A's (90 or above) in core subjects (math, science, social studies, language arts, and reading). Students earning an 80 or higher in the same core subjects are named to the "B" honor roll.
Hotline is an email newsletter sent each thursday to detail weekly events and happenings for parents.

Neuromotor functions/skills are related to the process of using the body's large muscles in a coordinated, effective manner, demonstrating effective manual dexterity, and maneuvering a utensil to produce handwriting.
Remediation is the process of assisting students with improving deficiencies in learning.

Saturday school is offered on saturday mornings from 9:00 until 12:00 pm for students with excessive absences, tardiness, or other academic needs.
Schools Attuned to All Kinds of Minds is a 45-hour long course (a national training program) developed by All Kinds of Minds Institute in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is designed to help educators better understand and manage children's learning differences. Hill School teachers are required to attend the Schools Attuned training within one year of employment.
