Winter break is here! While time off from class is beneficial for students, it’s important to keep your child actively engaged and learning new skills. Many children with learning differences, including ADHD and ADD, need stimulating activities, especially if the cold weather is keeping them indoors. So, we created a list of 10 activities to do this holiday season that the whole family can enjoy!

Pick your favorite or make a fun checklist to complete over the break!

1. Bake holiday cookies – and decorate them too! This is a great way to nurture creativity over the holiday break. Have your kids create any shape they want and decorate them with icing and sprinkles.

2. Drive around and look at holiday lights. This is such a simple activity that provides so much joy for everyone! Grab some hot cocoa and head to your nearby neighborhoods to check out the community’s holiday decor.

3. Movie night and snacks. Cuddle up by the fire, make a fort, grab some popcorn and turn on their favorite holiday movie. One good thing about Texas winters is that you may be able to take movie night outside! Snag an inexpensive movie projector off Amazon, hang a sheet on your fence and voila!

4. Arts and crafts. Head on over to the craft store and get creative. You can paint canvases, decorate ornaments, make paper snowflakes and so much more. The options are endless!

5. Ice skate at Panther Island Ice. Take advantage of Fort Worth’s very own ice skating rink located at the Coyote Drive-In near downtown! Of if you need to get some holiday shopping done, head to the Galleria in Dallas to check out the huge Christmas tree and enjoy an afternoon of ice skating.

6. Ride the North Pole Express. Experience the magic of the season and ride the North Pole Express in Grapevine. Check out more info here.

7. Decorate! This is a chance for your kids to express themselves! Get out all your Christmas decor and let them decorate their room with lights, a tree or other fun knickknacks.

8. Write letters to local nursing homes. This is a great way to not only practice writing skills and creativity but bring a smile to someone’s day!

9. Zoo Year’s Eve. Your kids can ring in the new year at the Fort Worth Zoo! They’ll eat pizza, watch movies and explore different animals. Check out more info here.

10. Go see the Nutcracker. If your children love fine arts, they’ll love seeing a live performance of the Nutcracker! Check out local theaters such as The Texas Ballet Theater for upcoming performances this holiday season.

We hope you enjoy these activities with your children and have a wonderful winter break. See you in the new year!
