Classroom Teacher Job Description

  • FLSA Status: Exempt

Teachers deliver engaging, individualized, and multi-sensory instruction that meets students where they are and supports their academic, social, and emotional growth. In partnership with colleagues and families, educators nurture confidence, character, and scholarship within a supportive, respectful, and empowering school community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field (required)
  • Experience teaching at the elementary level (preferred)
  • Experience supporting students with learning differences, including students receiving special education services (preferred)
  • Knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs), accommodations, and instructional modifications
  • Familiarity with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and Texas curriculum standards
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification or eligibility to obtain certification (preferred)
  • Special Education certification or willingness to pursue certification (preferred)

Skills / Knowledge

  • Strong instructional skills in core elementary subject areas aligned to TEKS
  • Ability to plan and deliver differentiated, small-group, and individualized instruction
  • Knowledge of inclusive and evidence-based instructional practices for students with diverse learning needs
  • Strong classroom management skills that support structure, engagement, and positive behavior
  • Ability to implement accommodations and modifications based on students’ needs
  • Strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
  • Collaborative mindset and positive, student-centered attitude
  • Effective lesson-planning, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and document student progress data to guide instruction
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of student, staff, and family information
  • High standards of personal and professional conduct
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and culturally responsive, inclusive practices

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement engaging, high-quality elementary lessons aligned with TEKS and individual student learning profiles
  • Deliver instruction across core academic subjects using multisensory and evidence-based strategies
  • Provide differentiated instruction, interventions, and enrichment to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of students
  • Implement goals, accommodations, and instructional supports in collaboration with support staff and specialists
  • Use formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress, document growth, and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes respect, inclusion, independence, and student confidence
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, goals, and instructional strategies
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, service providers, and parents/guardians to support student success
  • Participate in school-wide events, enrichment activities, and extracurricular opportunities
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and actively contribute to the school community
